I AM MOVING AT LEAST

What do you do when you are too gross and icky sick to do anything but walk from couch to bedroom? You pull out a 1' x 2' table and sit up when possible. Pathetic, huh?! Does anyone know what this thing is that is going around? Flu? Plague?

Here is my little stash near the couch. I wasnt super productive but over the course of the past couple days it kept me sane.

What you see above are the essentials to making a YellowDog card on recycled stock. First is the pencil outline, second is the ink outline, third is oil pencils and final step is to ink again so the colors stay nice and bold. No photocopies, tracing or prints.

A look at one of the finished products:

This is my first ever xmas themed YellowDog card. I have a nice little bundle of new ones for my show this Thursday in hopes I can still attend. Originally I planned to be doing these little guys while taking my lunch break at my day job but I have instead been doing them on my cough-free breaks. I know, pretty. Hey, I am gross and sick but the cards are cute as hell :)

Something old, something new, something in progress, something flu?!

I know, terrible title. I blame it on my foggy head. I am sick. As in SICK. S-I-C-K. It is beyond the flu but I didnt think I could find a word that rhymed with pneumonia or bronchitis. Whatever I have, Im embarrassed it has knocked me down so badly for so long. Heres hoping tomorrow is better. Ok, enough of that talk...on to the fun stuff!

I did venture out to the Women's Festival of Crafts this morning. I armed myself with tissue, an entire bag of cough drops and a little bit of cash. The festival is one of my favorites. It is taking place all weekend so you can still stop by Burlington City Hall and find some amazing goodies for gifts or even for yourself! Maybe I will take some pics tomorrow and show you some goodies I have purchased from that show over the years; its really unique stuff.

Out of order but staying true to my title....
Something in progress:
I have wanted to do some YellowDog collages for a long time. What you see here are just steps one and two which included adding the background paper with gel medium and when dry, adding another coat of gel medium. I thought that before I risked a canvas or board I would try these circles I bought at the new art store in Essex. They are made of some funky combo of pressed paper and fabric or fiber...I dont know but as I hoped, they did not warp! At first I thought they would be magnets but at 3.5 " in diameter, I think they might be too big. Then I thought why not ornaments? It is the perfect time of year for those. But they arent really set up to be done on both sides and I would want to do both sides. So maybe back to magnets...what do you think? More pics when I actually complete them.
Now something old:
I used this Martha Stewart circle cutter with a self healing mat to create the pieces of paper I collaged onto the circles above. It was so easy and worked so well; they came out perfect. The little cutters has several spare blades and you can unscrew the top pf the cutter and store all the blades inside.
Something new:

These are Tombow Dual Tip markers. I havent really been into markers since I was a kid but these beauties are so much fun and the colors are so vibrant. I have been collecting them a few at a time as I hunted through all local (and some not so local) art stores. I could have purchased the whole set on Amazon but I dont need ALL of them and this way I got to support my local retailers. Other than my brushes, I buy from the little guys.
Im crashing so I gotta head back to the couch in a minute. I hope tomorrow brings painting because I have lots to do and I feel like I have wasted my entire week with this stupid cold/flu/nightmare!
Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!

SUPER QUICK HOLIDAY SPECIAL!

This has to be a quick post so I can dive into my day job in a timely manner but I have wanted to post this for a couple days so here we go!

I will be re posting Holiday show info soon. Nothing has changed but I might have more details to share with people. I will do that this week as I hope to continue with these special offers.

First, I would like to find a painting a new home and maybe offer some holiday shopper a special deal! I will no longer be bringing this painting to any shows but before it gets placed on a possible local business wall, I want to make it available to you! Below is 'Frisbee?'; it is on a 36'x36 gallery wrapped canvas ready to hang. Originally this piece was priced at $250 but it is now on sale for $100! Please contact me if you have any questions or are interested in this piece. The buyer will get a free YellowDog of their choice to go along with this possible gift!

Secondly, for anyone that attends the UVM show I do each year, all non YellowDog items will be on sale. As in HUGE sale. As in, I will no longer be making these items and I want them to find new home. Most items will be a couple dollars with the most expensive item being $5. Again, I hope this helps some holiday shoppers and it will really help me clear out my stock. I love these items myself but I cant hold onto to everything! This clearance sale will include all floral pins, wildwoman pins and paper goods like handmade notebooks, gift tags and mini envelopes.

I hope everyone is well and looking forward to the always busy holiday season. More sales announced tomorrow!

WOOFSTOCK 2010

This past Saturday was the Addison County Humane Society's annual Woofstock and although very very VERY muddy, it was a huge success for them. Jackie and her crew and all of their wonderful supporters raised a record breaking amount this year.
The weather held out for us even though the previous days of rain made it a muddy venue. Lets just say I had to SCRUB my boots off and hose down my jeans before even trying to wash them. My good friend Georgia came with me and after Woofstock we grabbed some yummy food sitting by the river and then hit some of the cute stores in Middlebury. We went all over town in our mud covered jeans and mud caked shoes! More on the goodies found in Middlebury in a later post.
Below are some pics of the event but check out my facebook or flickr pages for many many more photos!
Here is a shot of my set up. My set up is different for every outdoor show as I have to organize things according to wind and rain...my least favorite part of outdoor shows. I was happy with this final set up though!!
Here is the piece I donated to the Humane Society to be raffled off at the event. I was actually thinking of donating a different piece but Georgia and Jackie changed my mind. Im glad they did as this piece looked great and needed a new home.

Ofcourse I picked the location closest to the off leash area! These poodles were hilarious. They literally bounced all over the fenced in area with little Hobbs chasing behind them.

This is a closer look at part of my set up. here you can see some of the mini canvases, the Greetings series (which is on sale now for $100!) and my bookmark displays. I love my little bookmark displays. They are small, clear paint pails that my mom bought for me years ago. They keep things from blowing away but still let you easily see whats inside.
Here is one of my newest card designs. Georgia so kindly grabbed me a bagel and instead of payment she quickly traded me for this card. I was flattered. I will make more of these!
Im not sure if you can tell by this pic but there are layers upon layers of mud on my boots. And this picture was taken very early in the day. I had mud half way up my pant leg by the end of the show. Thank you to everyone that braved the mud just to check out my stuff!

This looks interesting...

I stumbled across this the other day. It is called a 'Blank'. Can you tell from my terrible late night digital pic what it is? I grabbed the few they had left. Now to see what I can do with them!

Old events and new events!

Art Hop (Dog Hop) was a blast! It was crazy busy and people were wonderful. I really couldnt ask for a better set up than Play Dog play provides. But next year, I gotta bring lights. Can someone remind me, please?! I was a dork to not think about lighting AFTER DARK! The only negative thing is I forgot to take pictures. I charged my battery and packed my camera but I didnt take a single picture. But check out Play Dog Play's facebook page by clicking here; they have a couple cute pics. Masha is so good about that!

Shelburne Museum Goes to the Dogs was AMAZING! This was my first year doing it. I think at last count about 1,000 dogs attended. Can you imagine?! It was wonderful. It was hours upon hours of friendly people with their sweet dogs walking by my booth. The wind scared me a little. I set up my tent using three sides for the first time and I felt like it was going to get sucked up in the air the entire time. But at the end of the day when I went to remove the stakes, they were still tightly impacted and hadnt budged at all. Good to know for next year so I can stress a little less. It was like a wind tunnel! But still a really great day. My wonderful Mother came with me and she took all the pics. I will post some images when i get my hands on her camera.

My next event will be WOOFSTOCK 2010! This event is organized and benefits the Addison County Humane Society. It will take place in Recreation Park in Middlebury this year on October 2nd from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Check out their site for more info! My dear friend Georgia will be joining me so Im even more excited! not only is she a blas but this means yummy food and possibly some hearty drinks will follow the fall outdoor show. Couldnt ask for a better day.

I know, a spot without pictures is so boring. Please accept my apologies but check my blog out again soon as I promise more news and pictures to come!

See you tonight?

Stop by Play Dog Play tonight after 6 pm to enjoy live music and fun artwork while partaking in some wine and cheese. The weather looks great and I am so excited. I will post pics of all of this weekends event next week but for now, take a look at some recent happenings:

This is a sign I made at the request of the HSCC a couple years ago. They use it at their big June walk every year to help direct the people/dog traffic around certain areas of Burlington. This year it happened to be placed near the police station. Kinda funny. Im easily amused it if you hadnt guessed.

This was one of the many visitors I had back at the June walk. Gorgeous, right? I wish I could share ALL the pics from that day.

I have a ton of pics of this guy. And by 'this guy' I mean the handsome four legged guy with the beautiful white coat. He was a charmer. I watched him go all over the park charming all the ladies. In this pic can you see what he has his eye on? Yup, a big bowl of trweats. He is just waiting for the go ahead. What a good boy.

Here is a commissioned piece for a returning client. This is the white charcoal stage. Sorry for the bad pic. I suck at digital photograpthy. It didnt help that this was taken around midnight ina room with terrible lighting. yes! Thats it! It was the lighting that caused the bad pic. *ahem*

The almost finished piece. Again, bad pic but I like how it turned out. It was a very thughtful, well planned surprise gift for a husband to give his wife. So sweet.

Ok, off to the Art Hop. Say hi if you are in the area!

So much going on! Come say hello!

It has been so long since I posted on here that I forgot my password. Once I was finally able to sign in, I discovered Blogger is now requiring everyone to use their ftp migration tool. What this means is I am very quickly trying to update my blog and make sure everyone can find it asap! I guess if you are reading this, I have succeeded. *fingers crossed* Now on to the news...

I will be at Play Dog Play on Pine Street tonight for Art Hop. Last year I was the solo artists and it was a blast but EXHAUSTING! I am happy to hear that this year there will be a couple artists showing there as well as the Humane Society's children's art auction. I have lots of new stuff. I will try to post some pictures later today before I head out to set up. I will be at PDP tonight until 10ish and tomorrow 10-5. But thats not all...

Sunday I will be at the Shelburne Museum Goes to the Dogs event. A couple people have tried to get me to do this event in the past but it just hasnt worked out for me but this year I made a point to save the date. I hear only great things about this event so I am excited. I will be one tired chica come Sunday night but I think it will be worth it. I think the event runs from 10-4 on Sunday but you might want to check out there web page for details.

I have a number of other events coming up and I will post more soon, I promise. Thank you everyone that has emailed lately. You are my best motivation! The thing about a blog is EVERYONE knows when you have been slacking. Ok, back to seeing if I can actually make this blog visible...

Where the hell have I been?

The answer to that question is too much to even get into. At least right now. But in an effort to get back into the swing of things i thought instead of surfing the internet, I should post something. Anything! Although I cleaned out many of my large pieces, I never really got to cleaning so that is what this weekend is supposed to be about. Supposed to be as in that is my current intention. I am trying... :)

I have been short on ideas lately. Tonight will be a night of sketching. I have an event coming up in early March and I need to get my $*&! together. The event is called the beCAUSE Art Show and the idea of this event is for vendors to donate a large (if not all) of their profits to a charity of their choice. Shoppers get to see some unique work form people of all ages and styles in a non-holiday setting (aka: no crushing crowds!). And a large portion of what shoppers spend goes to charity. Not bad, eh? I will post more about this event as it approaches. I have been a shopper at the event for the past two or three years and last year it was just amazing. I look forward to being on the other side of the table this year.

And finally for today....

here is another piece up for grabs at a bargain price. I like this piece a lot and I have held onto it intentionally, however, it does not go well with the palette of my other pieces and the pieces I will be working on for the upcoming months. So I thought I would try to find it a good home. I get some space in my studio and the pieces of mind that it is being looked at instead of in storage while hopefully someone out there gets a very affordable piece of original art!

Here is 'Go for a Walk?':

This piece is 18" x 36" and on gallery wrapped canvas and is ready to hang! Originally priced at $80; it is now on sale for $40! Drop me an email at yellowdogart@aol.com if you are interested.

I know I have been out of the loop for a while now so please feel free to drop me a quick hello email as well. I miss chatting with everyone but look ofrward to seeing you at events as the weather gets warmer. It will get warmer again, right?
